Integrated Robust Optimization of Scheduling and Signal Timing for Bus Rapid Transit

The unbalanced nature of passenger demand and the uncertainty delay at intersections are considered critical factors in efficiency public transportation operations. Considering controllable characteristics bus rapid transit system (BRT), an integrated optimization model that includes multi-mode scheduling signal timing is proposed. robust copes with fluctuations operation. A non-linear programming developed to minimize total travel time optimize departure time, dwelling strategies stations, timings intersections. constraints on control, degree saturation, scheduling, waiting stations intended reflect real traffic conditions. case study extensive sensitivity analyses were conducted evaluate performance proposed model. results show can adjust BRT based different demands coordinate adjustment mitigate delay. Furthermore, experimental demonstrate improvements 5.3% 8.1% mean maximum values respectively, using model, compared those obtained conventional operation strategy.
